Why antibiotics cannot cure the cold?

Two sets of medicine did not help fight the cold. It has been a week plus now, and I am planning for the 3rd visit to the doctor this afternoon. This headache and runny nose are driving me nuts! Wonder which clinic should I go to? Or maybe I should just go to the hosp? Oh yeah, the second doctor I visited was surprised to see the set of medicines that I ate. Apparently, the first doctor I went to gave me an antibiotic for intestines infections. Oh dear!

It is strange that it took me longer to recover this time around. Not that it is something horrible but the thing is I am having a tough time concentrating on work with the sneezing every 5 mins. It really bugs me now. I mean, after boxes of tissues, I need to do something about this.

Curious, I searched for some info regarding antibiotics. After the first incident, I began to have a little doubt with gp. So, here is something interesting to share.

Taken from http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/cold-guide/antibiotics-colds

How many times have you asked your doctor for an antibiotic to treat a cold? A lot of people do that, even before the doctor has performed a physical exam or made a diagnosis, and doing so can create major problems. A recent study by the CDC found that many adults believe if they are sick enough to see a doctor for a cold, they should get antibiotic treatment. The study also found that these patients are not aware of what might result from taking the drugs if antibiotics are not needed.

If you take an antibiotic you don't need, you can end up with more serious health problems. One of those problems is antibiotic resistance. That means later you can end up with a disease caused by bacteria that resists the effects of an antibiotic.

Antibiotics cannot treat the common cold virus

Antibiotics don't work on the common cold. They fight bacteria-related illnesses. Colds, though, are caused by viruses, and so antibiotics won't do you any good. But they can do you harm. For example, some people (about 1 in every 40,000) can have an allergic reaction that could be fatal. Also, people taking antibiotics they do not need has led to the growth of several strains of common bacteria that are now antibiotic resistant. For these and other reasons, it is important to only use antibiotics in situations where they are needed.

I guess this is just a seasonal cold, since the second doctor told me of the various symptoms that I should be aware of. Perhaps the recovery process gets a little longer due to weather and lack of rest. I should be drinking plenty of water too.

But, honestly there have been people asking me whether it is okay to be in close contact with me? That hurts a little, but I understand.

I am no doctor, this is just my best guess.

work & happy

Nicholas came just now and passed me this book - The Rules of Work by Richard Templar. I'm not sure whether I did asked him to get me a copy of it, or maybe it was hubby who did. Silly. I am so forgetful nowadays, but I thanked him anyway. Its not like everyday knowledge comes knocking on your door heh? I browsed through the book and something caught my eye on page 174. I dont know why but I got hooked to it a soon after.

One thing I like about the book is the way the author is pressing on the issue of putting things in perspectives. You must work to live, not live to work. Period.

Dont take stuff home with you (I do this a lot, although I ended up not doing any work at home haha!). Spend time with the children as they will grow up so fast we might be missing their precious childhood. We missed it because we are doing paperwork of an evening or attending another boring bloody conference at the weekend. Sad but true! It is just a job. Yes you need money but job is still a job, and there are others ~ health, love life, family, children, life, soul?? You have to learn to relax, not take it seriously, enjoy it more, and most importantly put things into perspective. Get a hobby, get a life! - Templar

So, in response to that, I supposed gardening is a hobby too. Kan? Though I am not really good at this, but what the heck, it feels nice to see more green thing growing happily at the backyard. Well...psstt...I find it comforting greeting them selamat makan yeah pokok2 whenever I watered them. Weird heh, but nice. Here they are, my pretty ladies (perasan-kah?? haha) at home!!!!!
(laki aku ckp aku tanam rumput bah! ...iskk hot aku!!!!!!!!)

Oh yeah, just a belated father's day wish. See what the girl gave her papa. Sweet kan. *tears*
Till then, Have a nice day! :)

What's for dinner?

What do u cook when you arrived late from work and have plenty of chores to do? Well, u can prepare simple meal like.....porridge. Fast and easy, and while waiting for it to be cooked you can do your laundry, dishes and almost everything. Tapi awas jgn tidur ye! Brilliant?? The art of cooking a 5 mins meal is godsend indeed.

Well, truth is, recently I noticed that my girl has developed this liking towards porridge eversince we put her in the nursery, hmm makes me wonder they probably made a good porridge over there because she keeps telling me that she ate this yummy food at her school. Hey, I can cook even better! Ha ha.. Funny, all this while I have trouble making sure that she eats her meal. She is high on her milk, and thats all she can take.

So, last night I was determined to cook a decent meal for my daughter, and the daddy of course. Nothing to brag, really. But anyhow, since my daughter gave two thumbs up for the porridge and 2 bowls couldn't satisfy her, I guess its worth sharing the recipe here. Ha ha *hmm perasan lagi!*

Ingredients:
Meatballs
Mixed veggie

Garam, serbuk perasa

Rempah sup

Beras

Shallots, garlic, ginger

Steps:
  • Fry shallots, garlic, ginger until fragrant. Add in sliced meatballs. Continue frying.
  • Pour generous amount of water
  • Add rice, dont forget to wash it first (mesti nih!), last night I added only 1/2 cup of rice. So, add more if you have more than 2-3 people
  • For seasoning, simply put 1 tbs of rempah sup, a bit of salt and ajinomoto (optional).
  • Let it cooks for 40 mins and you'll probably need to add water from time to time. Dont forget to stir once in a while.
  • Add mixed veggie and stir until it is cooked.
  • Sprinkle bwg goreng & daun bwg and served
4o mins?? Hungry?? Hehe, then while waiting layan la biskut cicah milo dulu ye!!

Another testimonial:
This morning while having breakfast hubby asked me," syg..ada lagi ka bubur yang semlm tuh??" teee heeee....

The verdict --> lovely and filling. Selamat mencuba!

no title

There have been lots of big events happening for the past 2 weeks which I would like to blog but didnt have the chance to do it earlier. Hmm.. lets see..

Engagement
My sis got engaged almost 2 weeks ago. It was a simple ceremony but nice as most of the family members were there. Sis was all happy and pretty. Thank God that my SIL was in-charge of the hantaran and make-up as apparently I have my hands full with 2 daughters side by side. Haha, anyways here is my smacking hot sis and her marvelous hantaran. *alamak will update later, x dpt view pulak gbr*

Moving out
Hmm, the past 2 weeks was crazy. I am freaking tired of packing and unpacking of things. The house is still a mess, with boxes all over the place. All this while we drove nearly 1.5 hrs back and forth to work on a daily basis, and with the massive traffics these days, we figured that it is about time that we moved out from my parents' hse. The thing is, I enjoyed being close with my family and it is great to have more people to talk to. Okay, perhaps I am also enjoying the comfort of knowing that my daughters are safe with my mom and sis. And I can always go back after 8 pm and I can go to the loo without any worries. But after many attempts to have a helper didn't work out, we desperately need to find other way. Now that with the new place we have new routine. No more after 5 pm working hours, and no more what I used to do. Though its a bit tiring and demanding too, we are quite happy really. Hubby is super duper helpful, needless to say. And guess what sariah is my neighbour, tingkat atas. Ha ha. Walahhweii.. buleh la join venture open hse raya!

Nursery
Syuhada cried on the first day that we sent her to the nursery. Moi cried even worse all the way from the nursery to the office! Silly silly me. He he. Nasib baik ofismate x perasan. It has been four days now and she still cries whenever we sent her there. The same thing happened every time we picked her up in the afternoon. I am still puzzled of her strange behaviour. Kena pukul kah anak aku nih?? kena marah ka, x kena bagi makan ka? Ish... Is this normal? She used to smile and ran towards us whenever we reached home (my parents' place) after work. I feel like a terrible mom that she has to endure all this. But the kid sis is doing alright though, perhaps she is still too young to understand the whole thing. Time will tell whether everything will go well. Praying for the best though.

nih la kanak2 ribena yg kena paksa bgn awal pagi dan mandi, heran buleh dia tidur time mandi.. kesian

Conference
Hubby commented that I have another zits this morning. Ouch this is bad. Breakouts on a daily basis. I repeat, one pimple per day. Shessshhh.... And now it is only a week after we were called to help. Not that we were pushed to do dozens of thing but being told to do something when the event is 2 mths away is too overwhelming perhaps. Really. The pressure is not on the amount of work but rather on the time frame and the task that keeps changing every 5 mins. It is amazing to see my dear friend managed to handle everything by herself all this while. Layak dpt apc tuh. I guess the new committee will help whatever is possible at the time being. Hope everything will turn out okay during the event! :)

Ok. Sekian utk hari ini.

mouse?

to be abused at the workplace is common. like yesterday, when things went haywire at the very last minute, then only they start naming people to be responsible for this and that. dah terhantuk baru nak terngadah kan. we are all happy to help but, it would be nice to be informed much earlier.

we went to 1B for lunch and bought kinda cute apple shape alarm clock. we realized that the clock is full of scratch and dirty only after we reached the car, darn lazy to go back to the shop and besides they don't even have extras. i dont think its worth more than 10 ringgit. but guess what we paid rm20++ for it, tu pon on 50% discount. the original price is almost 50 bucks! yeeew... dah kena tipu jer mcm.. ha ha, more like dah kena pugai..

oh dear this post is full of crap and negativity, suffice to describe my day. getting back the period after a long while is a little too much perhaps, mood swings are beyond tolerance. haha. i need to divert my mind by thinking lots of happy thoughts. think about the kids, think about the kids....:)

hey, guess what i found at the place where we bought the alarm clock. *teee heeee*
